It is common to hear people say that time flies and it is true. I have put together a list of screen idols who passed away ten years ago. Nicknamed The Golden Jet for his blond hair and his jet-like slap shot, Bobby Hull was the most feared goal scorer of the 60s and 70s He and teammate Stan Mikita were the first NHL players to use curved stick blades, which made his already wicked slapshot even more difficult to stop.
Born in rural Belleville, Ontario Hull rose quickly through the ranks of junior hockey and by the time he was 18 had joined the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks. He was a very effective rookie, and by his third year in the league was leading the NHL in scoring. In’61, he played an important role in the Blackhawks’ Stanley Cup championship victory.
Hull made history in’66 by becoming the first player to score more than 50 goals in a season. His 51st goal surpassed Montreal Canadiens’ legends Bernie Boom Boom Geoffrion and Maurice Rocket Richard and earned him a 7 minute standing ovation from the home crowd at Chicago Stadium.
Hulls tenure with the Chicago Blackhawks ended in’72, when he jumped to the upstart World Hockey Association (WHA). Initially, Hulls response that he would jump ship for a million bucks was an offhanded joke but when the WHA ownership agreed to contribute to that sum thinking that it would provide instant credibility for the league it became a reality.
In the WHA, Hull was quickly back to his old tricks. On a line with Swedish superstars Ulf Nilsson and Anders Hedberg called The Hot Line, he led the Jets to two league championship AVCO Cup victories. In’77, he set a new professional hockey record with 77 goals in a season which surpassed Phil Espositos’70-71 mark of 76 by a single goal.
Hull suffered from knee trouble throughout his career and was off the ice more than on it during the WHAs final season of’79-80. After appearing in a handful of games for the Jets, he was shipped to the Hartford Whalers for future considerations. He would play in a few games for the Whalers before calling it a career. With the exception of an abortive comeback attempt with the New York Rangers in’81 that was the end of his professional hockey career.
Hull’s legacy lived on in flesh and blood with his third son, Brett Hull. The Hulls are the only father/son combination to ever score 50 goals in an NHL season and Brett will follow his father into the Hall of Fame this year.
Hull is now 70 years old and splits his time between the Toronto area and Chicago where he serves as a PR ambassador for the Blackhawks organization. He is expected to formally induct his son into the Hall of Fame at the ceremonies later this summer.

Lots of people are talking about how super models aren’t so big anymore, that they don’t really exist like they once did, and that a lot of figures from the world of fitness are coming in to take over. Is this really happening?

So, everyone at work thinks you are hilarious! People at parties always flock to you so you can tell them a new joke. In school, you won the class clown trophy and you are totally proud of it. Terrific! Now you want to learn how to make money being a Comedian. Is it time to take your funniness to a new level?
Unless you become part of an improvisational group, before you can get on stage, you really need to write some material. There are plenty of places that will happily let you make a fool of yourself, because even if you are terrible, the audience will still have fun, because they will enjoy your plight.
Trust that one bad joke or story, where no one even giggles, will seem like an eternity, so be prepared for that, or you may just run off of the stage, which would actually be pretty funny! Being loud and obnoxious is also not a particularly a good plan. Be yourself and if people like that, you should be off to a good start.
Before you attempt to find a venue which will allow you to take the stage, you must have good material. Write about the things that make you laugh. Try not to think about ways to make others laugh. You will seldom entertain every patron with everything that you say. You are looking to entertain the majority. In an 8 minute set, strive to get 3 or 4 times when the audience applauds. This is a great test of your material.
With the mass appeal of viral marketing, it is pretty easy to record yourself and place it on one of the many sites that show videos. People are constantly searching for humorous items, so if you are funny, they will find you. If you have interesting opinions on current events or the crisis of the day, your viral audience will let you know.
This industry is all about being different. There are thousands of comics and most of them make a living doing it. If you see them on television, they are full time. So, in conclusion, write good material about how you think the world should be versus how it actually is. Add your thoughts on how to make it better without being the village idiot. Practice handling rejection or at least include the pain you felt after you hit on that guy or girl at the bar and they laughed at you!! Then you may be prepared to get your new career on the way.

Oklahoma’s junior quarterback Sam Bradford will likely opt for season ending shoulder surgery. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner was to announce his plans at a Wednesday night press conference, but that has been canceled with no official word from Bradford expected before Saturday. Despite the delay, unnamed sources close to the situation indicate that there is “a very good chance” that Bradford will go under the knife in hopes of insuring a better opportunity with a NFL team next season.
Despite every indication that the decision to undergo surgery to repair an injured AC joint in his throwing shoulder is to eliminate the potential perception that he is ‘damaged goods’ in advance of the NFL draft, University officials stressed that there has been no official decision in this regard. He passed on the NFL draft last year in hopes to win a national championship at Oklahoma.
On Wednesday, Sooners’ coach Bob Stoops addressed the media about Bradford and the canceled press conference:
“He just wasn’t ready to fully answer everything that’ll want to be asked and for sure what he wants to do just yet, until he has a few more people to visit with. That’s it. I won’t say another word about it.”
“Sam’s whole situation, he’ll have something to say when he knows what his path will be, and that isn’t right now. I’m not the one to answer it. He will. And I will once he feels he’s ready to and knows for sure what he wants to do.”
Bradford had hoped to contend for a national title this season, but that is no longer a realistic scenario with Oklahoma’s record. OU quarterbacks’ coach Josh Heupel talked about the conflicting issues that Bradford is currently dealing with as he tries to decide what the best course of action to take is:
“I think it’s extremely difficult for him, coming back for all the right reasons, wanting to have an opportunity to go compete on the football field, compete for championships and then having all those things taken away from you. There’s a lot of hard work that goes into it and when you invest that much, it’s going to be extremely disappointing. It’s not an easy situation for him, certainly.”
Despite their 3-3 record, Oklahoma has played well this year. The losses came to top level opponents BYU, Miami and Texas by a total of five points. Still, there’s no real hope for a return to national championship contention.
Had Bradford opted to go to the NFL last season, he could have been one of the highest players selected in the draft. He had a monumental season last year, throwing for 4,720 yards and 50 touchdowns. With his struggles this season and his injury, his future at the next level has grown somewhat more problematic. He could elect for surgery and opt for the draft this season, realizing that he’d be viewed as something of a ‘risky choice’.

Mixed martial arts is booming in America, but there’s not one specific fighter responsible for its upswing in popularity. That’s not the case in Japan, as Sakuraba is almost universally acknowledged as having brought MMA to the mainstream of Japanese sports and popular culture. In particular, his on-going feud with Brazil’s Gracie family made him a major superstar and national hero.
While Sakuraba’s resume certainly justifies the reverence with which hes held by the Japanese fight community, hes not really done anything to build on that legacy for several years. His last truly significant victory was a submission win over former UFC light heavyweight champ Quinton Rampage Jackson and his last victory over what can be considered a quality opponent in his prime was against Kevin Randleman in late 2003.
Sakuraba is not only 38 years old, but he’s what fight experts consider an ‘old 38′ based on the number of grueling, physically and emotionally draining battles he’s competed in. His 90 minute classic with Royce Gracie alone took a toll that some suggest that Sakuraba has never recovered from. Despite this, he continued to face the best opponents in the world after that fight.
Furthermore he’d frequently find himself across the ring from much larger superstars, his popularity and fearlessness producing matchups that could never get sanctioned in the US but are commonplace in the wild wild west environment of Japanese fighting. The quality of opposition he faced is staggering”Royce Gracie and several other members of the legendary family, Wanderlei Silva, Mirko Cro Cop, Vitor Belfort, and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira stand out as the most impressive names on his record. Unfortunately and not surprisingly, he had difficulty when stepping up in class against heavier fighters and most of these matchups resulted in losses by brutal knockout or other type of stoppage.
Despite his recent setbacks, Sakuraba has made no indication that hell be retiring anytime soon. Hopefully, this decision doesn’t put his long-term health and future well being at risk.

Reason #1: It’s such a lot of fun living vicariously thru the lives of others. I mean let’s accept it – many of us will potentially never just jet off to the Caribbean to be married to a 20 something super model in a lavish and secret wedding attended by all of the largest names in Hollywood. We adore reading about celeb’s famous and infrequently infamous marriages because it lets us pretend and imagine what it’d be like to live a famous and fabulously wealthy life. I mean actually, what would it be like getting married in an Italian castle like Tom and Katie?
Reason #2: It makes us feel happier about ourselves! It’s just a fact of mankind’s nature that regardless of how bad our own lives seem to be, there’s always somebody else out there who will make you feel better about your own situation. Sure, you may be struggling to pay the bills with a night stocker job at the local Wal-Mart, but at least you did not get pregnant with octuplets and then have no-one in the media care about it! Sure, you may not have managed to have a million buck marriage on an exotic island, but at least your wedding is still intact after 10 years instead of 10 mins, like a certain country music star we all know. Rhymes with Benny Lesney?
Reason #3: Because it’s there! Often, celebs are like a train wreck – you do not need to look at, but you can’t look away! It is not like you would like to watch Brittany going down in flames and shaving her head bald, leaving K-Fed as the responsible parent ( yikes ) but dang, how are you able to not watch? And if they didn’t wish their antics splashed all over the media, then perhaps they shouldn’t be acting crazy! I mean, how many country stars do you see in the tabloids, besides the one mentioned above of course? Not a lot of, because they aren’t out wrecking Ferraris (cough, cough Sarah Harding).
So there you have it, the top 3 reasons we like celebrity gossip! It may be electrifying, it may be terrible, it may be amazing, but celeb gossip is always entertaining! And entertainment is the spice of life!
