Virtually, deer hunters are now hunting from tree stands. If you are new to deer hunting, or if you have been hunting for a while but have nevertheless not used this method, you should think about using a tree stand. The benefits of using a tree stand are that you will stay away from the deer’s range of view, you will keep your odor hidden from the deer, and you will acquire range of your view. You do need to take certain precautions, all the same, to be sure that you protect yourself.
There are a lot of types in stands and almost all are safe to use. Some of these include ladder-type stands, climbing stands, and lock-on stands. You can also nail boards to a tree. No matter what type of stand you are using, acknowledge that accidents can happen. If a stand seems unsafe to you, do not use it. If you are toying with using a new tree stand and you’re far from your home or from people in general, wait. You will not be able to notify anyone if you were injured. Do not take using a tree stand lightly.
It is encouraging to become familiar with some of the ways by which hunters injure themselves on or around tree stands. Accidents happen when hunters doze off. It happens a great deal more than you would imagine. Hunters also get bruised when they fall while climbing in or out of a tree stand. You cannot ward off matters like excess moisture on your boot, or an exceptionally damp step. The third way by which hunters suffer injury using tree stands is having a part of equipment break. Nothing is 100% dependable. The best way to avoid a dangerous injury from these unfortunate events is to wear a safety gadgets.
Numerous hunters know the danger of not using a safety harness, but they still use tree stands without one. Your safety harness will only serve you if you wear it. It is not good sufficient to put on the harness after you have settled into your stand. In fact, climbing into or out of your stand is when you are most probable to be hurt, so you need to be wearing it before you begin ascending your tree stand. It only takes a bit to secure and is well worth the hassle. A fall with a safety harness has minimal damage compared to one without a safety harness. The safety harness could mean the difference between a few bruises and a premature death.
There are a few supplemental steps you need to consider while preparing to use a tree stand for the first time. Tree steps and tie-on ladders are two favorite methods used by hunters. Some also use threaded steel steps for climbing. Steel steps are best for the bargain hunter. They are cheaper than the ladders. Test the steel step to make sure that it is strong, steady, and secure. Use threaded steel steps that will amply support your weight. If the threaded steps bend, hunters slip and injure themselves. Use a drill to make pilot holes for the steps. Some hunters opt to use climbing stands rather than threaded steps, but they are less affordable and limit you to certain trees.
Deliberate the idea upon using a tree stand as you hunt. It is an powerful way to catch your prey off-guard. Both your body and your scent are above the deer’s vicinity. It also allows for a broader view as you study the landscape. Tree stands do make accidents, though. Take all of the necessary steps to forbid any major injuries. Use a safety harness to shorten the distance of your fall. Make sure that the steps you use to climb the tree are safe. Abiding by these guidelines for using a tree stand sees to it that you will have a safe and pleasant hunting experience.
Hunter expert and knowledgeable Ethan O. Tanner explains the various selections of scent hunting for deer the selection of hunting deer for great outdoors advice you should consider.

In France there is a high speed train known as train a grande viteese or in short TGV that runs on five main tracks.
The south-east TGV line connects the cities of Avignon, Dijon, Lyon, Nice, Marseille and Perpignon of south east of France and this passes through the French Alps and also has a stop at Geneva in Switzerland.
The TGV Atlantic line connects Paris and the west coast. The stops for this TGV line include the French Basque, La Rochelle, Nantes, the Loire Valley, Toulouse and Bordeaux.
The TGV northern line is linked between Paris and Lille and Calais which are the main towns in northern France.
The most prominent railway line in France called the Eurostar links Paris and London and it travels via the Channel Tunnel with stops at Lille, Calais and Ashford in Kent.
TGV Thalys is the high speed track which makes it easy for the travellers to move between some principal cities of Europe such as Brussels, Cologne and Amsterdam and France.
Since the high speed train travel service has largely improved in the last few years, travelling via Paris is no longer a mandatory feature while travelling between provincial cities in France. For instance the TGV line between Lyons and Nantes is direct now. So is with Bordeaux and Lilles and too many other cities.
While in service the TGV usually runs at a speed of 280-300km p/h with a record speed of 515km p/h.
Securing a train ticket in France is a complicated affair as it involves numerous special offers for the European and the non-European nationals. For a non-European national a pass known as Eurailpass is provided that allows one to travel for over a 2-week period but this pass costs more in France than in other countries where it can be bought 30% cheaper.
The French high speed TGV train is proof of the competence of France’s railway directors. To learn more about alternative methods of travel, such as Driving rules in France please follow the hyperlinks.

This self working card trick has long been a favorite of magicians of all ages. Since it’s self working, you don’t need to learn any special sleight of hand or use any special gimmicks. Another plus is that you can quickly show kids, even young ones, how to do this trick, and it will still work perfectly.
Here’s how the ploy seems to your astonished observers. You have all the cards of the matching suit taken out of the deck. So you’ve got all the hearts, or clubs, or whatever. Have them prearranged in order, beginning from the ace, and ending with the king. If you are doing this with children, you can even have them set the deck up for them.
As soon as you’ve got it set up, then you go through the deck once, showing them all that they are really in order, starting from the ace, and ending at the king. If you like you can offer them the short stack and have them verify for themselves to make sure there is nothing funny going on.
Then elucidate the deception to them. You have the stack face down. If they say “deal,” then you take one card off the top, and place it face down on the board, in a new stack. If they say “double deal” then you take two cards off the top, reverse the order and then place them face down in the same stack. Do this until you’ve gone through all the cards. Tell them that they have to remember the new order that the cards are in. While they are busily trying to re estimate the order, you pick up the new stack, and begin to turn each card over one by one. They will be staggered to see that the cards are still in the same order, beginning from the ace, up to the king.
Most often, they will ask you to do it again, and again. And the cool part is, since this is a self working trick, they can do it themselves and it will still work. The reason it works should be obvious once you do this a few times. If you take only one card off the top, and place it in the new stack, (deal), or take two cards, and reverse the order, placing them in the new stack (double deal) they still end up in the same order, no matter if you deal or double deal them. To perceive how this works, do the trick with all the cards facing up, and you’ll see how it works out.
This is amazing for kids of all ages, and a lot of of them will never guess how it works even after they do the trick themselves. Of course, you’ll sporadically run into a young logician or natural mathematician who’ll see right through this trick and realize how it’s down. Nevertheless, this trick is fantastic for endless amounts of entertainment, even with grownups. Have fun with this simple trick.

In a NFL preseason game characterized by rainy weather, sloppy field conditions and a quick exit for both teams starters, the Miami Dolphins outlasted their in-state rivals the Jacksonville Jaguars by a 12-9 score. Miamis game winning score came on a 33 yard touchdown strike from Chad Henne to tight end Ernest Wilford.
Miami’s Ernest Wilford recently converted to tight end from wide receiver, and gave the football an emphatic spike after his game winning touchdown reception. He talked about the play in his postgame comments:
“There’s a sense of urgency for me. I want to play well this year. It’s a good start. That was a lot of frustration right there. I didn’t play that much last year, so I had to let it out.”
Dolphins QB Henne, who is being groomed as the heir apparent to starter Chad Pennington, was pleased with his first effort of the NFL preseason:
“Overall I thought I played pretty well. I got some points on the board and had us moving.”
Jacksonville QB David Garrard gave a noncommittal assessment of his teams opening game performance:
“We have to get better at some of the protection issues. I have to make sure I get everybody lined up in the right spots.”
Jaguars wide receiver Tory Holt, acquired as a free agent in the off season, was happy with his only reception of the game:
“I had been anticipating this day for a long time. I enjoyed it and it was a lot of fun. I am looking forward to many more.”
Despite the loss, Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio was generally upbeat about his teams effort:
“We are going to be physical up front. I liked what we did up front.”
Not surprisingly given the tempo of the game, the most heated battle for a starting spot was between the Dolphins placekickers. Current PK Dan Carpenter made a 48 yard fieldgoal and a PAT, while his challenger Connor Barth hit a 28 yard FG.
Jacksonville will host their other NFL rival from the state of Florida on Saturday as they welcome the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to town. Miami will remain at home as they take on the Carolina Panthers. The Dolphins will begin the NFL regular season on Sunday, September 13th against the Falcons at Atlanta, while Jacksonville will play the Colts at Indianapolis.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers managed to escape with a win at Jacksonville on Saturday night, but by the narrowest of margins. The Jags gave up the opportunity to tie the game after a last minute touchdown, and decided to go for a 2 point conversion and the win. The attempt failed, and the Bucs survived to win by a 24-23 final score. The victory evened Tampa’s NFL preseason mark at 1-1, while Jacksonville slumped to 0-2.
A quarterback battle may be brewing in Tampa, as starter Byron Leftwich was outplayed by backup Luke McCown. Leftwich moved the team into Jacksonville territory on three occasions, but came away with only a field goal. He finished with 63 yards on 6 of 12 passing and gave his thoughts on his performance after the game:
“We did some good things. I didn’t play great, but I played OK. We wanted to look better. We wanted to understand situations better.”
McCown was 6 of 9 for 51 yards, but cashed in two touchdown passes. Tampa Bay coach Raheem Morris had little comment on his QBs play, but indicated that hed look to name a starter later this week:
“Everything plays a big part of this decision — OTAs, mini-camp, the games. These games count for a little bit more. We’ll evaluate the leadership and everything about the QB play. I can’t ask for a better competition and can’t ask for a better group and can’t ask for better results. Got to make the decision now.”
A bright spot for the Jaguars was the play of wide receiver Troy Williamson. Williamson was a disappointment after he was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings out of the University of South Carolina, but has given the Jags a much needed deep threat. Williamson caught two deep passes from QB David Gararrd and finished with 147 yards. He caught four passes for 74 yards in Jacksonvilles opening game of the preseason. After the game, he said that hes just trying to work hard:
“I am just out there working I’m doing more and more stuff to get my confidence back up. I feel good and comfortable with the offense.”
Tampa Bay will host Miami next Thursday night, while Jacksonville will look to get their first win of the NFL preseason as they travel to Philadelphia.

Despite the early struggles of starting QB Kerry Collins, who threw two interceptions, the Tennessee Titans managed to prevail over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday by a 27-20 score. The victory ran Tennessee’s record to 2-0 in the NFL preseason, while the Bucs dropped their first exhibition contest. The Titans rallied behind the play of backup QB Vince Young, who threw for 131 yards and the game winning touchdown.
Titans coach Jeff Fisher wasn’t happy with his teams performance, particularly their offensive rhythm:
“We just really didn’t get in synch like we would’ve like to.”
Conversely, Tampa Bays new head coach Rahim Morris was fairly upbeat after his NFL coaching debut despite the loss:
“Not a bad start though, not a bad start.
Tennessee QB Collins post game comments didn’t provide much insight into the reason for his poor outing:
“We had too many turnovers, and that can’t happen. We know we have a lot to improve on.”
Young, meanwhile, related how he had taken the advice of the Titans offensive coordinator and used his legs to keep a play alive and avoid a sack. He did this on his touchdown pass:
“And that’s basically what I did. I saw the free safety relax and he was in the Cover Two, and Kenny adjusted his route and did what he was supposed to do. I just got the ball to him.
Luke McCown started for Tampa Bay, though wasnt able to do much on offense either. He had little comment about his performance in postgame interviews:
“We have some things to clean up. We will look at the tapes and get better at it on Monday”
After the game head coach Morris indicated that veteran Byron Leftwich will start Tampa Bays next NFL preseason game, with McCown coming on in relief.
The Titans will open the NFL regular season against the Superbowl Champion Steelers at Pittsburgh on Thursday, September 10th. Tampa Bay will begin the 2009 campaign at home, welcoming the Dallas Cowboys to Raymond James Stadium on Sunday, September 13.

Everyone quickly understands the basics of sports gambling, because its as simple as the sports themselves. Horse racing, on the other hand, is a more difficult form of gambling to approach successfully. While there are some similarities between sports gambling and horse handicapping, success in one by no means assures even competency in the other. CBS Sports icon Jimmy ‘The Greek’ Snyder was by all accounts a first rate sports handicapper, but downright awful at forecasting horse races.
Were not going to suggest that the information here even scratches the surface of what you need to know to become a serious horse handicapper. There are countless books, DVDs and other media that you should check out if this is your goal. If you’re interested in simply knowing the basics so that you can enjoy a day at the track, here are some basic concepts of horse handicapping:
Arm yourself with information: The first step for any horse handicapper is to pick up a copy of the Daily Racing Form (DRF) and the track program. The publications give the names of the horses, jockeys and trainers, the morning line odds, and the types of bets available for each race. You’ll also have past performance charts, which are crucial for serious horse handicappers. These charts reveal a lot about a horse and what they’ve done on the racetrack, including its record, where it ran, the quality of competition it ran against, and what position the horse was in at various points in the race.
You’re not playing against the house: One thing to keep in mind when playing the horses that is drastically different from sports betting is that you’re not playing against ‘the house’, you’re playing against other betters. The track just accepts and pays bets, taking out a cut (called the ‘takeout’) for their services. The track odds are determined by the money bet on each horse. Long odds on a horse doesn’t necessarily indicate a ‘bad horse’ but just one that for whatever reason isn’t attracting bettor interest.
The odds in the newspaper are known as the ‘morning odds’ and are essentially educated opinions. They’re not much different than ‘overnight lines’ in sports betting. They can serve a function for handicapping, but often will not reflect what will transpire when the actual betting begins.
The Basics of Handicapping: Even expert handicappers approach the sport differently and, like his sports gambling counterpart, may place greater emphasis on the importance of certain data than other handicappers. Some handicappers place a great deal of weight on a horses past performances, including the quality of opposition hes run against. Others place greater value on recent workouts, and still others go to the paddock to eyeball the horses and try to determine which ones are ready to run.
Once a bettor reaches a conclusion about what he thinks will happen in a given race, it is still subject to the odds that are available when betting. This is similar to sports gambling, where an underdog may be more attractive due to an excessively high payback potential than he would ordinary, or, conversely, a clear favorite becomes an unattractive wagering proposition due to a prohibitively high price. Its all a matter of the math–if I could speak to the teenagers of America, I’d try to impress upon them the importance of doing well in math for no other reason than its importance in all forms of gambling.
Trainers and breeding: Some handicappers prioritize a horse’s breeding background–considering his bloodlines and the competitive quality of his parents and grandparents. Then training must be considered–a good trainer can often get a horse to ‘over perform’ much in the same way a good coach can get the most out of his team in sports.
The horse’s jockey: Jockeys are free agents, meaning that they get paid on their performance. In theory, this means that they’ll do their utmost to win in every given race. While there are a few exceptions, many serious horse handicappers downplay the importance of the jockey. Assuming the horse’s ‘mount’ is competent, there are much more salient factors to consider when handicapping a race than the jockey.
Find your own style, and maintain discipline: Basically, there’s not a ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to handicap a horse race. Figure out what works for you, and develop and refine your own methodology. As in any form of gambling, don’t bet more than you can afford to lose and in particular when you’re starting out there’s no reason to be making big wagers. If you want to learn more, there’s a number of good internet resources including the Daily Racing Form website.

Not too long ago, Mark Coleman headlined UFC 109 facing Randy Couture. Several days later, he’s apparently no longer good enough to remain in the UFC at all. On Wednesday, following a lopsided loss to Couture the UFC released Coleman from his contract and cut the veteran heavyweight. Coleman is now free to sign with any other promotion, but at 46 years of age his most likely-and most advisable-course of action is retirement. Fighters seldom do the ‘most advisable’ thing, however, and his actual plans are unknown at the moment.
Coleman became the first UFC fighter to be cut immediately after headlining a PPV event. Others have left due to drug test failures or for other opportunities, but none have ever been cut from their contract. Sources close to the UFC suggest that it was a decision no one wanted to make, but that all felt was unavoidable due to Coleman’s age and deteriorating skills. Of course everyone knew of his age and deteriorating skills for awhile now, so the UFC’s baleful response is a tough act to buy.
While the fact that Coleman is a shell of the fighter he was at his prime, the UFC’s suggestion that they have his best interest at heart is somewhat duplicitous. He was kept around and booked into last Saturday’s fight–a fight that no one particularly had any interest in seeing in the first place–simply because he was a fighter that Randy Couture could beat. Were the UFC interested in the well being of their aging fighters there’s several others on the roster that should also be cut for the same justification as Coleman. Couture, Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell are all well past their prime but they’re still under contract and will all likely fight again. No one wants to *see* an endless parade of old timers into the octagon, but the UFC seems determined to shove their version of the ’senior’s tour’ down the throats of the MMA fanbase.
Coleman’s age has never been a secret and his diminished skill level was evident to anyone who has watched his recent fights. If the UFC was really interested in his physical well being, the main event against Couture should have never taken place. The fight itself wasn’t exactly one that UFC fans had been clamoring for and one that met with derision from the MMA media from the time it was announced.
While retirement would be in Coleman’s best interest, he may attempt to fight in a smaller US promotion or in Japan where he’s well known from his time in PRIDE. He’s already a member of the UFC Hall of Fame with a 26-10 career record and has fought the best in the world including Fedor Emelianenko, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Mirko Cro Cop. He has a family and kids so his best future would be out of the ring but few fighters have been able to make a clean break from the sport.

Brady Quinn outplayed Derek Anderson, giving himself an edge in the Cleveland Browns QB battle, and his team outplayed the Tennessee Titans earning a victory in NFL preseason action. Quinn threw a touchdown pass as Cleveland used a 17 point third quarter to beat Tennessee 23-17.
Browns backers who bet on NFL preseason action were pleased with the outcome, as Cleveland easily covered as a -1 home favorite. The Browns are now 2-1 against the spread in the NFL preseason, while the Titans dropped to 1-2-1 against the number.
At least locally in Cleveland, the battle for the starting quarterback job was the big storyline of the game. After the contest Browns coach Eric Mangini conceded that the battle was very close but declined to give any indication of which way he was leaning:
“I’ll look at the tape tomorrow, talk to the coaches and continue to evaluate it. When the decision is made, I’ll let everyone know.”
Both signal caller aspirants have posted similar stats, but Quinn has thrown the only touchdown pass of the preseason for the Browns and this may make the difference. After the game, Anderson expressed some degree of resignation:
“It’s out of my hands. Let the chips fall.”
Quinn, meanwhile, suggested that the decision made no difference in the way he approached the game:
“I expect to practice on Monday. Derek and I are mentally tough guys. If our coach wants us to go forever, I’m sure we can go forever.”
Wide receiver Braylon Edwards refused to take sides or handicap the quarterback battle:
“That’s up to coach. Whatever decision he makes we’ll support. Right now, they both look good.”
Despite the loss, Titans coach Jeff Fisher has generally happy with the play of his starting QB Kerry Collins:
“Kerry spread the ball around quite a bit. We got some things accomplished that we didn’t see last week. I was pleased with the drives. We gave up a couple of plays, but I thought we handled the run with the starters”
Cleveland will conclude their 2009 NFL preseason schedule on Thursday night, traveling to Chicago for a game against the Bears. Tennessee will wrap up their exhibition slate on the same night as they welcome the Green Bay Packers to Music City USA.

The Baltimore Ravens are clearly responding to first year defensive coordinator Greg Mattison. In Mattison’s debut as an NFL coordinator the Ravens obliterated their regional rivals the Washington Redskins, completing a shutout by a final score of 23-0.
15 different players caught passes and after the game backup QB Troy Smith said that Ravens signal callers had been instructed to get as many players involved in the offense as possible:
“It’s been drilled into both our heads to spread the ball around, to not have tunnel vision. The sky’s the limit for us.”
Starting QB Joe Flacco was pleased with the effort:
“As an offense, everything felt really good. I was happy with the way our receivers and running backs were moving. Our line did a heck of a job for being their first time out. I didn’t have to do anything but sit in the pocket and make throws.”
The Ravens defense, meanwhile, was simply stifling. For that reason, new coordinator Mattison was awarded the game ball in his first NFL assignment. Head coach John Harbaugh joked about that fact afterwards:
“I don’t know how he’s going to do it, but he said he’s going to divide it up for every one of the 80 guys on the team.
Redskins coach Jim Zorn remained upbeat despite the decisive loss:
“This is a tremendous tool for us to use. We look for these things, these learning situations.”
The Redskins will continue their NFL preseason play by hosting the Superbowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday night. Baltimore, meanwhile, will welcome the New York Jets to Charm City on Monday night.
