Most individuals feel that windsurfing is a great sport and windsurfing holidays are a lot of fun times. Individuals forget that when they’re out there that there are other individuals about the water too. Since that’s rarely the case it is important that you know the 3 most important rules and right of ways.
You just need to use the common sense that you have been given. You may not know what the rules really are, but you are able to do simple things like being tuned into what’s going on around you. Make sure your path is clear when you make any kind of manoeuvre. Also know where the other windsurfers are around you and what they are doing.
Just because you have the right of way does not necessarily mean that the surfers around you’re paying attention. So keep your guard up and be prepared for them to mess up.
It is true that you should have the right of way over a motor boat, but that does not mean that they are paying attention. So if you are in that situation just let them go and be about the safe side.
This article is heading to go over the top three rules and the right of way so that you are able to understand them – before you go on your windsurfing holiday experience.
The Top 3 Windsurfing Rules:
- Port tack gives way to starboard tack – A port tack is where the wind is coming from the left hand side ( i.e. the left hand side of your board) starboard is where the wind is coming from the right hand side (i.e. the right hand side of your board)
- Windward gives way to leeward – windward is the term for upwind with leeward being the term for downwind – a surfer furthest down wind has right of way – the person cannot see the other surfer Should you are upwind, you have more options to get out of the way. Whenever you are sailing along normally, you are facing leeward; your back is to windward
- Overtaking – Overtaking surfer should give way to the slower one however, you can over take if there is room to do so. Should you are going to overtake ensure there’s at least 2 masts widths between you and the other surfer should you decide to do this.
If you are a novice windsurfer being overtaken or there’s another surfer coming towards you – attempt to not panic or drop your equipment in the pathway of the surfer.
When you are the slower windsurfer and someone is heading to overcome you, don’t panic. Just let them come around and make sure not to get in their way.
Now that you know these few easy rules you’re heading to do fine, and you are one step closer to your windsurfing holiday journey! A bit of practice and you will be surfing with confidence. Just keep in mind that “right is right” – i.e. If your right hand is on the mast then you have to right of way.
Windsurfing Holidays are so much fun – and they are becoming a popular holiday choice. If you are tired of the same old routine and need a break from it all, click the links to learn about windsurfing gear!

When you’re looking online for a hotel in St Ives, you should start by asking yourself what it is that you actually want from the place you’ll be choosing. Although you might think this is obvious, in my experience it’s easy to forget this simple rule to keep in your mind.
So how do we go about answering this question? What we need to do is develop a list of features that can be found in the hotels in St Ives that you discover in your online search. Once we have this list, we’ll be much better able to select a hotel that best matches what we’re ideally looking for.
The basis for all hotel stays is obviously the reason why you’re going to be there in the first place. This will most likely be either for a holiday or city break, or for work. There are, of course, other possibilities (such as visiting relatives, attending a party etc.), but we find these are the 2 most common reasons for wanting to stay in a hotel.
Once we have in mind why it is we’re going, we then need to determine where in St Ives will be the best place for us to be based. This will take into account factors such as whether you want to be near the town centre, near to any sightseeing opportunities, or near to where you’ll be working.
Once you have this in mind, you’ll want to determine what sort of facilities are important to you within the hotel itself. Certainly most modern hotels will come with en suite bathrooms, but if that isn’t important to you, you may be able to save some money. Similarly, you should decide if you want a bar or restaurant in the place you’ll be staying.
Lots of hotels also now come with facilities that would have been unheard of a few years ago, including some with their own gym and swimming pool. If you want to keep on top of your emails or just chat with friends on Facebook, a wifi internet connection might also be important to you.
Having mentioned money, this is a very obvious issue that you’ll want to address. No point looking for 5 star luxury if you simply can’t afford to pay the amount it would cost per night. St Ives certainly has its fair share of hotels to choose from in all price brackets, so you should easily find something suitable with just a few minute’s investigation.
Now you have all this info to hand – location, facilities etc. – you should look into each of the hotels that are available in St Ives that meet up with your requirements. You’ll probably find several that tick all the boxes, so you now simply need to choose your favourite.
One final factor, of course, is the dates you’ll want to be there. It’s not always the case that each hotel is available for your chosen time frame – or perhaps not for all the time you want to be there – so it’s essential you check based on the actual dates of your stay so you’re not disappointed when it comes time to book.

As the current crisis deepens, more and more people find themselves strapped for cash. With gas and oil costing what they do, it is much more expensive to be a car owner these days and thanks to rising inflation it is necessary to spend a good deal more on the basic items needed for day to day living. On top of that, growing interest rates and rents mean that no matter whether you own or rent, you will surely be paying more this year for housing than the year behind us. Faced with this sort of a situation, all of us are just looking for something to give.
In this context, it is typical for most families to sacrifice their yearly vacation/holiday. With the going getting tough, a holiday can be seen as just one large expense. By forsaking such a trip, the rest of the year can be rendered a little more bearable and easy. INCORRECT! Missing out on the fun and relaxation of a good holiday will be likely to make you loathe the rest of your year: you’ll reach year’s end in tatters, barely having survived, no more. That’s not what we are here in this life to do. We need to live, not merely survive.
You need something to look forward to, to enjoy, to reward yourself with for a year of hard work. You also need some time away to recharge your batteries, for what will be another year of hard work. Your annual holiday is one of the necessities of life. It is not a luxury. In fact, when times get tough, experiences like your holiday become all the more important. This is when you really need them, as this is the time you really need to take the edge off.
Notwithstanding all this, there is no need to spend a fortune on your relaxing vacation. This article is aimed at helping people understand what economical alternatives there are for a quality holiday on the Gold Coast. These options which will strip hundreds from your holiday budget. All that without having to renounce any of the fun or relaxation that such a vacation needs to entail.
Getting there: to find cheap airfares to your destination there are a few different strategies. Here’s a look at some of them:
Reward Programs – If you are not a member of flight reward programs, you should be. Make sure you are a member of frequent flier reward programs and credit card reward programs. Now is the time to transfer your credit card points to your frequent flier program, cash them in and get your free flight. This alone will save you hundreds of dollars, just when you need it.
Discount Carriers – Leave the full-service companies behind. When it comes down to it, go with the discount carriers to get the best fares. Make sure you sign up to all benefit programs and to their newsletters. The offers that you’ll find will be sure to surprise you.
Flight Comparison Services – These kinds of services help customers narrow down a list of truly competitive pricing options for their flight, defined by a specific date range. Through such comparisons much of the fine-comb work is eliminated, meaning a simpler selection process and better results.
Staying there: Similar alternatives exist with accommodation. Remember too, the hotels know people cannot afford expensive holidays at the moment. They are discounting like crazy!
Reward programs – While not as well known, many hotels chains and booking services have reward programs. If you are a member of any of these, use your points now. If not, sign up to accumulate points for next time.
Accommodation comparison services – Search engines like these will find you the best option for the quality/price you need.
Consider other options – Hotels don’t have to be part of a vacation, as other alternatives exist. Hostels for backpackers are one option to consider for those searching for a “shared” experience. For those demanding more privacy, there are always B&Bs, holiday apartments and RV parks, all rich in cheap possibilities.
While there: One of the great things about the Gold Coast are our surf beaches. Once you get here, you can entertain yourself for your whole holiday, without spending a single cent. All you need is a towel and a pair of bathers, so you can take your self to the beach and spend your holiday body surfing, swimming (always between the flags) and tanning.
If you would like a bit more adventure, try a long term surfboard rental service. Most hire shops charge you an arm and a leg to rent a surfboard as they charge you hourly or daily rates. Instead use a holiday length rental service. These services make surfboard hire very affordable.
Then, there is a plethora of cheap entertainment options to be taken advantage of farther inland as long as you have some planning skills. There are the frequent and often free music and art festivals that always draw throngs to the Australian east coast. There are the charming local markets and the sporting events that abound. To get a taste of the nightlife scene, check out the Surf Life Saving Clubs where drinks are much cheaper than at the regular bars, yet the atmosphere equally lively and upbeat (you’ll also be patronizing the noble cause this institution represents).
All it takes is a little thought and clever planning and you can still enjoy your annual Gold Coast Holiday, even on a shoe string.
Damian Papworth understands that for cheap all inclusive holidays, the Gold Coast is a sensational destination. begin with finding some cheap Gold Coast accommodation, and ask what your providers will include in the deal.
